Special visit sessions scheduled for State Penitentiary, Jameson for Christmas holiday

PIERRE, S.D.-  The South Dakota Department of Corrections has authorized a special in-person visitation period for eligible offenders and their families at both the South Dakota State Penitentiary (SDSP) and Jameson Prison (JPA) for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

South Dakota State Penitentiary (SDSP)

SDSP will host in-person Special Visit sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on both days. Each visitation session will include, at a maximum, 16, class-1 visits with a maximum of four visitors per offender. As this opportunity is not available for online scheduling, families must call (605) 367-5083 to reserve a spot.

Eligibility: All in-person eligible general population offenders and offenders residing in the Upper West section of Restrictive Housing are eligible to sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once the slots are filled there will be no exceptions made.

Each visitation session will include, at a maximum, 16, contact visits with a maximum of four visitors per offender.

These visits will run in conjunction with previously scheduled Class 2 (non-contact) visits.

Jameson Prison (JPA)

JPA will host in-person Special Visit sessions from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days.

Eligibility: Offenders in General Population (GP), Residential Treatment Program (RTP), or Protective Custody (PC) statuses are eligible for these class 1 visits. Offenders who are on active Class 2 restrictions do not qualify for the special visit sessions.

Any offender qualified to participate will submit a special visit request to their respective Housing Captain for approval.

Each class 1 visit will be 2 hours in length. Visitors will be limited to one visit session during this allotted time. Each session will allow for a maximum of 10 Class 1 visits.
